2020 Mapinduzi Cup: Simba SC eject defending champions Azam FC in semis

The Vodacom Tanzania Premier League leaders Simba Sports Club are through to the final of the 2020 Mapinduzi Cup. Simba SC ejected defending champions Azam FC 3-2 in a penalty shootout at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar on Friday night after a goalless score in full time.

The likes of Ibrahim Ajibu and Kenyan international Francis Kahata came close to scoring for Simba SC, while Ugandan defender Nicholas Wadada also had his well taken shot saved for Azam FC.

During the penalty shootout Erasto Nyoni, John Bocco, and Jonas Mkude scored for Simba, while the goalkeeper saved Sharaf Shiboub and Meddie Kagere’s penalties. Azam FC scored through Kassim Hamis and Masoud Abdallah, while Idd Kipagwile, Donald Ngoma and Abalora failed to score.

Simba SC will now face another Vodacom Tanzania Premier League side Mtibwa Sugar FC in the final on Monday at the Amaan Stadium.

The 2020 Mapinduzi Cup attracted eight teams with four coming from Zanzibar and the other four from Tanzania mainland.
