CECAFA representatives Simba SC are out of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

The Tanzanian side fell 4-3 on penalties away to South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in the second leg of the quarter final played on Sunday.

Richard Ofori, the Orlando Pirates goalkeeper converted the winning penalty to send the South African team to the semi final stage.

After a goalless first half the home side returned determined to find a goal. Simba’s Kope Mugalu who had earlier seen his attempt miss the target was sent off after 58 minutes after a bad foul.

Kwame Peprah put Orlando Pirates ahead after 60 minutes when he nodded in a well taken Ntsikelelo Nyauza free kick.

The home side continued to push forward, but Simba’s defending line led by veteran Pascal Wawa stood firm before the game went into penalty kicks since the first leg had also ended 1-0 in favour of Simba SC.

Last year Simba SC also reached the quarter final stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League where they lost to South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs.
