Djibouti’s Red Sea Sharks defeat Somalia in friendly match

The Red Sea Sharks of Djibouti picked a 1-0 win against the visiting national team of Somalia in an international friendly match played at the El-Hadji Hassan Gouled Aptidon Stadium on Tuesday night.

After several attempts at goal, the hosts netted the lone goal through Samuel Akimbinou after 31 minutes.

In the second half the Somali team pushed forward to try and level matters, but failed to penetrate the organized Red Sea Sharks defence.

Djibouti’s head coach Julien Mette said he was happy with the friendly match ahead of their match in the FIFA Arab Cup. “This has been a good game for us to try out several aspects,” added Mette.

Next week the Djibouti national team will face Lebanon in the preliminary round of the FIFA Arab Cup on June 23rd, while Somalia will take on Oman on June 20th.

The other African team that will feature in the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup include; Sudan, South Sudan, Libya, Mauritania, Egypt, Comoros, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria.
