Cecafa mourns former chairman Tesfaye Ghebreyesus
The Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) is mourning their former President, Tesfaye Ghebreyesus who died in Asmara, Eritrea on Saturday morning.
Ghebreyesus who once served as President of the Eritrean National Football Federation (ENFF) for eight years died at Sembel Hospital.
“It is sad news that our former President Ghebreyesus died this morning,” said ENFF President Esayas Abraham.
Nicholas Musonye, the Cecafa Secretary General said the death of Tesfaye is a big loss to the region.
“It is with great sorrow to learn of the demise of Tesfaye Gebreyesus. The CECAFA family deeply mourns and shares the grief with the family and the people of Eritrea,” said Musonye.
He explained that Tesfaye was an exemplary sportsman, who played, officiated and managed the sports with passion and commitment.
“We as CECAFA family benefited heavily from his wisdom and guidance. We are going to miss a leader and father figure. We pray with the family of Tesfaye,” added Musonye.
Tasfaye is also remembered to have officiated at five Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) competitions.
