Burundi’s PVP FC have registered their first win at the on-going TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers for the CECAFA Zone.

PVP FC stopped Djibouti’s FAD FC 2-1 in a Group A match played this afternoon at the Kasarani Stadium.

Head coach Jumaine Niyonkuru’s team that suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Simba Queens in their first match were a much changed side against FAD FC.

Sikieh Lerman had an early chance for FAD FC, but her attempt hit the pole.

PVP FC continued to push forward before Rehema Nicole Igilima got the first goal for them after 22 minutes. The FAD defenders failed to close out the PVP attackers.

But the FAD team did not give up and leveled matters after 38 minutes through Lerman with a well take long shot that beat PCP goalkeeper Amissa Inarukundo.

In the second half the FAD players looked tired as the Burundi team dominated play and pushed forward to try and score more goals. After 53 minutes Igilima netted her second goal of the day to restore PVP’s lead.

It was all attack after attack for PVP FC, but they failed to make use of the many scoring opportunities they created.

“I am happy that although we missed many scoing chances, we have managed to get a win. We now wait for our last Group game against Lady Doves,” said PVP’s coach Niyonkuru.

The FAD head coach Darar Abdillahi Darar said his team had played well despite getting tired in the second half. “I am happy that we scored our first goal in the tournament. This tournament will help us build the team,” added the coach.

The second group A match will see table leaders Lady Doves (Uganda) face Simba Queens.
