Ethiopia set to camp in Rabat ahead of CHAN

The national team of Ethiopia is set to camp in Rabat, Morocco ahead of the TotlEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2022.

Esayas Jira, President of the Ethiopia Football Federation (EFF) confirmed to Cecafaonline on Tuesday that the team will depart on January 3rd, 2023 to camp in Rabat for eight days.

“Our team will go and acclimatize in Morocco and may be play a friendly match. This camp is part of an agreement we signed with The Royal Moroccan Football Federation of Morocco,” says Jira.

The tournament that brings together players featuring in their local Leagues at home will take place from January 13th to February 4th, 2023.

Ethiopia are placed in Group A alongside the hosts Algeria, Mozambique and former champions Libya.

Wubetu Abate, the head coach of Ethiopia’s national team has made it clear that the camping in Morocco will help them prepare better because the team will be out of all distractions from home and also acclimatize. “We need to prepare well before our opening match against Mozambique,” added the coach.

Uganda Cranes and Sudan are the other two teams from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Zone that will play at the CHAN tournament. Morocco are the defending champions.

The Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has said his team must prepare well in the remaining days ahead of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2022.

Sredojevic named a 35-man provisional squad on Tuesday before entering camp on December 21st in Kampala.

Speaking during a Press conference at the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) headquarters in Mengo, the Uganda Cranes coach made it clear that they will start intensive preparations in Uganda before traveling to Tunisia and continue with training.

“We have maintained the core of the team that played the Qualifier matches against Tanzania. We have had the first round of the league running and this helps to put the players in good shape,” he started.

He also made it clear that they might have three or four friendly matches while in Tunisia. Uganda Cranes who have never made it out of the group stage of the CHAN tournament are placed in Group B alongside DR Congo, Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal.

The tournament strictly for players featuring in their respective domestic Leagues will take place from January 13th to 4 February 2023 in Algeria. Ethiopia and Sudan are the other teams from the CECAFA region that will feature in the CHAN 2022 tournament.

Sudan to camp in Tunisia ahead of CHAN 2022

The Sudan national team will pitch camp in Tunisia to prepare for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2023.

Besides Sudan, the CHAN 2022 will also attract other two CECAFA teams Uganda and Ethiopia. The tournament will take place from January 13th to 4 February 2023 in Algeria.

Muhamed Mazda, the Technical Director of the Sudan Football Association (SFA) confirmed to cecafaonline.com that the team will camp in Tunisia for few days before traveling to Algeria.

“We are waiting for the Sudan Premier League to break-off on December 29th and the team will travel to Algeria. “We plan to have three international friendly matches while in Tunisia. We have already confirmed matches with Libya and Niger,” added Mazda.

Sudan are placed in Group C alongside reigning champions Morocco, Madagascar and Ghana. Uganda Cranes who will be making their sixth appearance in the competition are placed in Group B together with former champions DR Congo, Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal.

Ethiopia who also qualified to represent the CECAFA Zone will battle in Group A alongside hosts Algeria, Libya and Mozambique.

The CHAN tournament which brings together players featuring in their respective home Leagues will this time feature 18 teams.

Rwanda, Sudan referees selected for CHAN 2022

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected two centre referees from Rwanda and Sudan to officiate at the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2022 to take place in Algeria.

Eighteen teams will take part in the CHAN tournament slated for January 13th to February 4th, 2023 in Algeria.

According to the list released Rwanda’s Samuel Uwikunda and Sudan’s Mahmood Ali M. Ismail are part of the 12 centre referees selected.

Ethiopia’s experienced referee Bamlak Tessema Weyesa has been selected together with Pacifique Ndibihawenimana (Burundi), Peter Waweru Kamaku (Kenya) and Mohammed Abdallah Ibrahim (Sudan) as VAR referees.

The assistant referee picked from the Council of East and central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) region include; Hamza Hagi Abdi, Dieudonne Mutuyimana (Rwanda) and Emery Niyongabo.

CAF has selected 19 centre referees including one woman from Togo Vincentia E. Amedome, 21 assistant referees including two women, and 12 VAR referees.

The CECAFA region will be represented by Uganda, Sudan and Ethiopia at the CHAN 2022 tournament. Morocco are the defending champions.

Wabetu names squad ahead of CHAN 2022

The head coach of Ethiopia’s national team, Wubetu Abate has named a 42-man provisional squad ahead of the 2022 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Algeria will host the tournament from January 13th to February 4th, 2023. The tournament to attract 18 teams will be played in the four cities of Algiers, Annaba, Constantine and Oran.

“We want to start preparations after the first round of the Ethiopia Premier League ends mid this month. We shall have few days of training in Ethiopia before we travel to train in Morocco,” added Abate.

The coach also made it clear that they are trying to organize two friendly matches during their camp in Morocco.

Ethiopia are placed in Group A alongside the hosts Algeria, Mozambique and former champions Libya.

Sudan and Uganda are the other two teams from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Zone that will play in the tournament.
